10 Alternative Comics That Would Make Killer Movies
8. Black Hole
Plot: Charles Burns' 1970s set comic follows a group of teenagers who, over the course of one summer, contract a mysterious sexually transmitted disease. Before they can pat themselves on the back for scoring some summer lovin', the STD causes grotesque physical mutations. As they are ostracised from society and all have to come to terms with themselves, each other and a series of murders going on. The Pitch: Irradiated Stand By Me. Why It Would Make A Killer Movie: One of the most original comics ever written, this award winning story has mutations and murder, and is a metaphor for sexual awakening and adolescence, but the loudest message is clear; always wear a condom. This coming-of-age tale is also perfect viewing for those who suffer from body inadequacy issues after watching the usual comic book movies. Many talented people have flirted with adapting Black Hole in the past including French director Alexandre Aja, Neil Gaiman and Pulp Fiction co-writer Roger Avary. However the closest it got to being made was when David Fincher took an interest in it in 2008 but pulled out two years later to focus on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. With such an original story and interest from such talented individuals Black Hole could be one of the most interesting comic book adaptations ever.
