First up for your consideration is acclaimed German mini-series Generation War which is getting a theatrical release in January after being sold to US distributors. The film tells the story of five young friends growing up in Nazi Germany and follows them on their widely different paths through World War II as soldiers on the front, a war time nurse, a singer and a Jewish tailor respectively. Directed by Phillipp Kadelbach and featuring a largely unknown cast of up and comers this harrowing and thought provoking film is a sweeping epic with a very emotional narrative which offers viewers something rarely seen in World War II films; the war from the perspective of the average German showing how they were seduced by Nazism without ever filtering the atrocities they committed. If you prefer your War films a little less controversial but no less nerve shredding then check out Lone Survivor which is also released in January. Lone Survivor tells story of Marcus Luttrel, played by Mark Wahlberg, a Navy SEAL who, along with three other SEALS went behind enemy lines to capture a Taliban leader in 2005 only for the mission to go wrong. Big Time. Expect explosions, gun fights and nail biting tension in this true story with acting support from Emile Hirsch, Taylor Kitsch, Ben Foster and Eric Bana.
