4. World War Z
Despite a huge budget and prime advertising slots, World War Z arrives in June without the expected buzz of a summer blockbuster starring Brad Pitt. This is due to stories of a troubled production, re-writes and re-shoots which traditionally doesnt bode well for a good box office return or critical acclaim. There is one reason though why this film could be the exception to that rule and that is the source material. Max Brooks book of the same name was published in 2006 and was written in the style of a UN report about the near extinction of the human race after a zombie apocalypse told through a series of interviews with survivors from around the globe. The film will not follow that narrative because it has no protagonist but it is full of so many good ideas it would be virtually impossible for the director Marc Forster to make something not worth watching. At best we could be treated to zombie chaos on a scale never seen before in cinema and that is definitely worth taking a chance on.
