10 Amazing Acting Performances To Watch On Netflix
4. Mads Mikkelson - The Hunt
Mikkelsen won the acting award at Cannes for this challenging portrayal of a school-teacher wrongly accused of sexually abusing an underage student. The Hunt, which was nominated for a foreign language academy award, is a difficult watch, especially so considering the ‘this could happen to anybody’ approach the film attempts. But Mikkelsen holds it together magnificently, controlling the film with the same tempered manner he brings to NBC’s Hannibal (in which he plays a version of the famous doctor that surpasses even Anthony Hopkins’).
In a performance of growing unease, Mikkelsen’s Lucas goes from the shrug-it-off, ‘this is nonsense’ school-teacher, to a kind-of vigilante warrior, hell-bent on proving the townspeople wrong and determined to go about his daily life despite the charges brought against him. Look out for the scene in the grocery store, in which Lucas resorts to a moment of unprecedented, strangely gratifying violence.
