Largely overlooked despite its theatrical release and 2D animation in a time where such is rare to see in cinemas, the soundtrack from this film, similar to the show it's based on, is well done, and somewhat reminiscent of classic Disney in its musical stylings.

As a show, My Little Pony isn't short on fantastic songs showing the personalities and energy of each candy-coloured pony, and the film is no different. The songs showing their unity and friendship dominate much of the soundtrack, but the highlights have to be those sung by individuals, especially those who are villains, or not entirely on the side of good.

"I'm the Friend You Need" by slinky conman cat Capper builds the world outside of their pony-filled land, with Broadway legend Taye Diggs lending his velvety voice to the character.

The standout, however, has to be one of the best villain songs in the last few years of animated films - "Open Up Your Eyes" by the amazing Emily Blunt as the vengeful, broken-horned unicorn Tempest Shadow.

Another musical gift this movie gave audiences was Sia as a pony, with her single "Rainbow" bookending this lovely, cathartically bright and optimistic film.
