10 Amazing Feats Of Genius In Comic Book Movies

9. Dr Manhattan€™s Martian Madness

Legendary PicturesLegendary PicturesDoctor Manhattan built a rather extraordinary mechanism while on his Martian exile in Watchmen. Whilst in this exile we learn that his father had felt obsolete as a watchmaker after Einstein's discovery that time is relative to speed. In response to this, Dr Manhattan builds a gargantuan collection of gears and cogs that show how this seemingly obsolete craft continues to build some incredibly complex pieces of machinery. The machine acts as a ship, allowing Dr Manhattan to travel about the Red Planet with ease and style. Although it seems excessive as a form of transport, the clockwork ship gives us an idea of how complex a character this superhero is; he believed that he was responsible for causing cancer in his friends and confidants, and he made this hard decision to self impose exile upon himself. This act of genius therefore has a metaphorical resonance that makes it strangely representative of the character, allowing the depth of the character to be explored through visual means.
