10 Amazing Feats Of Genius In Comic Book Movies

8. Otto Octavius€™ Metallic Arms

Sony PicturesDoctor Otto Octavius' Nuclear Fusion test in Spider-Man 2 was impressive, but the invention of robotic arms linked to his brain in order to enable him to conduct the experiment was surely the greater act of genius. This was not recognised at all in the film, with onlookers barely batting an eyelid at the impressive invention. When the experiment went wrong he turned to villainy, and these tentacles became crucial components in these criminal activities. The metallic tentacles ensured Doc Ock had a menacing stature (just look at the picture above!) yet even though his nuclear experiment failed the invention of these extra limbs deserve recognition. There are a multitude of uses for these arms, yet they are almost overlooked as a scientific advancement by the film entirely. The invention of these arms had a deep impact on the film. They created the main villain and ensured he was both visually intimidating and physically threatening. Doctor Octavius was perhaps the greatest villain in this franchise, he was complex enough that you could empathise, yet you could also recognise his reprehensible actions. The invention of the extra limbs gifted us with this extraordinary villain, and for that this act of genius demands to be recognised.
