Attempts to remake The Twilight Zone after Rod Serling's death were mostly unsuccessful but the 1983 film Twilight Zone: The Movie is a relatively satisfying tribute to the greatest anthology series ever.

The movie features four segments from some incredible directors: John Landis, Steven Spielberg, Joe Dante and George Miller. Fans of the show might at first be disappointed to find out that three out of the four segments are remakes of old episodes, and it would have been nice if most of the segments were original stories rather than just retreads of what you've already seen. Still, the remakes are lovingly produced for the most part, and a nice glimpse into what Serling would have probably done with access to modern technology.

The remade segments are Kick the Can, It's a Good Life and Nightmare at 20,000 feet. Nightmare is by far the best one, mainly because the classic episode always suffered from that terrible looking costume, whereas here the creature actually looks fantastic and scary. It's A Good Life is fun too while obviously not comparing to the original, and Kick the Can is an okay outing, though oddly the weakest one despite being directed by Spielberg.

It's an effective modern version of the show overall, and the closest fans will ever get to seeing more of Serling's work.
