10 Amazing Horror Anthology Films You Have To See
7. Tales From The Crypt
A lot of people have seen the Tales from the Crypt TV show, but did you know it was actually a movie first? 16 years before the TV series premiered, there was this adaptation of the comic series in which the Crypt Keeper tells five strangers stories about how they died. Oh yeah, they didn't realize until then that they're actually dead. Sucks for them.
The first segment will be familiar to fans of the television series, as it was later remade in the show's second episode: a woman kills her husband on Christmas Eve, only to be stalked by a murderer dressed as Santa. For the rest of the stories, a man gets in a car accident and faces some horrifying realities, a father and son plot to take down their annoying neighbor, the wife of a ruined businessman is granted three wishes, and residents of a home for the blind exact revenge on their cruel director.
Fans of the show shouldn't expect Tales from the Crypt: The Movie: this is a totally different interpretation, trying way harder to be scary and not campy like the HBO show. For one, instead of a wisecracking skeleton, the Crypt Keeper is just a dude in a robe. Still, when separated from the much better show, Tales from the Crypt is an entertaining dose of old school horror.
