10 Amazing Horror Movies That Are Total Nonsense

9. Hausu (House)

Toho

Even though Hausu is renowned for its ludicrous imagery, it's impossible to prepare for how balls-to-the-wall nuts this horror comedy is. (The fact it's categorised as "experimental" doesn't do it justice.)

Hausu begins with a teen called Gorgeous heading on a trip with her friends to see her aunt. Little does Gorgeous know her aunt died years ago and has been reborn as a vengeful spirit who feeds on the souls of unmarried girls.

Although the plot itself should be reasonably straightforward, it's arduous to understand, since the majority of the scenes are chockablocked with the weirdest visuals imaginable.

While crucial exposition is being doled out, it's easy to get distracted when the scene cuts to a carnivorous piano, cartoon skeletons, or dismembered legs kicking a blood-vomiting cat painting. Although the dated special effects could hamper the viewing experience, they actually amplify it, since they add another layer of surrealism to this already loopy flick.

It will prove too silly for some, but Hausu is guaranteed to leave a permanent impact on anyone who dares to give it a go.
