Trainspotting is one of those movies you dont ever shake off. Like a bad smell, its sex, drugs and violence set amid the backdrop of grimy-grey Edinburgh stays with you forever, meaning that a sequel really isnt necessary to remind us of its existence. Still, given that the original film is not only a work of art but one of the most honest social documents of its decade, stuffed with larger than life characters and boasting one of the most teasing 'what happened next?' endings in cinematic history, the possibility of part two is ridiculously exciting. Fortunately, thats exactly whats happening, and its happening in 2016. As youll recall, unlikely anti-hero Renton (Ewan McGregor) was making a sprint for sun-blessed beaches abroad when we last saw him, but in order to succeed he needed to avoid the psychotic rage of Begby (Robert Carlisle) which, all cynicism aside, screamed sequel as soon as the credits started rolling. In the event its taken twenty years to arrive, though director Danny Boyle has confirmed that a second installment is well underway with the original cast all back on board. Those seeking a cheeky spoiler can look up the Irvine Welsh novel Porno on which the movie is due to be based, though Boyle has stressed that many tweaks will take place to keep viewers guessing right to the end. Tantalised? You should be. Expected release date: 2016
