10 Amazing Movies Made On Shockingly Small Budgets

7. Thankskilling - $3,500

Thankskilling Turkey
Warner Brothers

A horror comedy that quickly became a cult hit, Thankskilling definitely feels cheap, but $3,500 is still a shockingly low budget given how watchable the film is.

The movie itself is absolutely ridiculous, revolving around a turkey brought to life by necromancy who goes around killing people every 555 years. What an amazing premise. It was directed by Jordan Downey and produced by Kevin Stewart, two college students who made the movie during the summer before their senior year. Nobody involved was actually paid, and at no point did the crew seek permits to shoot anywhere. They just grabbed their camera, made a turkey puppet and started rolling.

It was quickly embraced by the horror community as being cheesy and hilarious, and although it's not clear how much it made, it seems to have done pretty well on DVD and Netflix. Because of that popularity, Downey and Stewart were able to finance a sequel via Kickstarter, raising $100,000. It might seem like a stupid throwaway B-horror movie, but being able to make something that was seen and enjoyed all over the world while still in college is no small task.
