10 Amazing Movies That Are Total Nonsense

2. Face/Off

Face Off Nicolas Cage John Travolta
Buena Vista Pictures

Face/Off is a testament to how even a fundamentally stupid idea can be elevated to pulp-art with the right execution.

This action thriller about a cop, Sean Archer (John Travolta), and criminal, Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage), who trade identities after their faces are quite literally swapped doesn't make a lick of damn sense, but when the action is this dynamic and the performances this self-aware, who cares?

If you try to make sense of how seamlessly the central characters manage to swap identities despite their obvious physical differences, you'll lose your damn mind, but why would you even bother?

Face/Off's ultra-stylish, adrenaline-soaked action is abetted by Nic Cage's gloriously nutty performance as raging psychopath Troy and Travolta's manic turn as Troy-wearing-Archer's-face. It is a towering celebration of excess, of never letting logic get in the way of a fun time, and it remains John Woo's crowning contribution to Hollywood action cinema.
