Christopher Nolan's (The Dark Knight, Inception) feature-film debut, Following is by no means the director's best movie, but judged on its own merits, this is a strong, deeply interesting psychological thriller with absolutely zero fat on its bones.

Following a writer who tails strangers around the streets of London as he looks for material, the movie extrapolates plenty of drama from that simple premise. What stories would you find and what people would you discover if you just... observed?

As the situation spirals more and more out of control, the ramifications of that question become more and more dangerous, but Following is never outlandish or ridiculous. It's completely believable, and you'll leave feeling like the events of the movie could actually happen.

Nolan also plays with temporal shifting here (a technique he'd master with Memento and The Prestige), and his burgeoning talent is clear, even in spite of the low-quality film stock and limited resources he had to play with.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
