10 Amazing Nordic Horror Movies You Must See Before You Die

Probably one of Norway’s better known horror movies, Trollhunter earned its writer and director Andre Ovredal critical acclaim both in his homeland and further afield. Filmed found footage style, the mockumentary draws on Norse folklore and Norwegian politics in a movie that’s part satirical comedy and part fantasy horror.

A group of film students set out to investigate a series of mysterious bear killings but discover something much stranger going on when they come across the titular character (played by Norwegian comedian Otto Jespersen), a man hush-hush hired by Norway’s government to destroy any of its not-so-mythical troll inhabitants that stray near populated areas.

To be fair the focus is more on humour than outright horror, but it’s definitely a thrilling ride with gorgeous cinematography and some pretty impressive CGI trolls considering its relatively tiny budget. An American remake was in the works for a while but was eventually abandoned late last year, thankfully.
