10 Amazing Scenes In The Halloween Franchise
7. The Laundry Chute - Halloween 5: The Revenge Of Michael Myers (1989)
A good chase scene is what we watch a slasher movie for, right? Well, buckle up, friends, the fifth entry in the Halloween series has you covered and then some.
Halloween 5 met with critical scorn upon its release and was not a hit with audiences. Grossing a scant $11 million at the box-office, the film went straight-to-video outside North America.
However, that's not to say the film has nothing good to offer. Despite a muddled plot, when Halloween 5 gets going, it really dials it up to 11. The entire third act of the film plays as an extended chase sequence with Michael Myers constantly on the hunt
In a now-iconic scene, 12 year-old Danielle Harris is left with no choice but to climb into a laundry chute and hold on for dear life. In a sequence rich with tension we see The Shape loom over the little girl and reach one huge hand towards the camera to grab her. The child is sent plunging three storeys to the basement with a sickening thud. We watch a nail-bitingly tense scene that follows as Michael takes his trusty kitchen knife to the flimsy chute and maniacally stabs, as young Jamie attempts to claw her way back to the top, avoiding the frantic blows as best she can.
This scene is truly horror movie gold. Michael's ferocious determination is palpable, as is Danielle Harris' fear for her life in an excellent, mature performance from the young actress. One can't help but scream for her to get out with gusto after watching this adorable girl lose everyone she loves throughout the film. Despite being a divisive entry, Halloween 5 is worth your time for these heart-stopping games of cat and mouse.
