10 Amazing Spider-Man 2 Script Changes That Drastically Changed The Film
7. Time Differences
The majority of the film takes place right after high school graduation, though the actual length of time that takes place between the film's several save-the-world montages and plot developments is never clearly specified. In the first script, the majority of the film takes place a yearafter graduation. This actually clarifies several story problems, like Peter's forlorn attitude toward Gwen. It also leaves room for character appearances from J Jonah Jameson (who we'll get to in a second), and firmly plants Peter and Gwen as college students. In the finished film, Gwen applies for college after high school graduation, despite being the valedictorian, and it's her desire to go to Oxford that drives much of the relationship tension between Gwen and Peter. By placing the film a bit later, it could show that Gwen is in fact in college, but exploring other options, which throws a wrench into Peter's life. Also, placing the film even farther from the events of the first installment may have been a smart move, to establish that Peter's been Spider-Man for some time now, and has been dealing with his fears of putting Gwen in danger for much longer.
