10 Amazing Spider-Man 2 Script Changes That Drastically Changed The Film

6. Dr. Ratha Lives

Doctor Ratha, played by Irrfan Khan in The Amazing Spider-Man, works for Norman Osborn and is the one who pressures Dr. Curt Connors to complete his genetic research on lizards, in an effort to save Osborn's life. His fate in the film is left completely unclear, as his car is seen careening off the side of the Brooklyn Bridge, but we never actually see him die, or hear from him ever again. In the film's deleted scenes, it looks like he survives the car crash but is killed by Connors when he confronts him in his sewer lab, but since those aren't technically part of the film, it's safe to say he's alive out there somewhere. Maybe. The original script for TASM 2 makes Ratha's fate very clear, as he's seen alive and well, and still working for Osborn. He actually takes the role of Colm Feore's character, Donald Mencken, who is chocked up to be nothing more than just a feckless goon. Why they changed the name of the character is unclear, especially since it wouldn't have altered the final film at all. In fact, having Ratha in TASM 2 would have added a nice bit of continuity between both installments, and would have stopped all that fan speculation that Feore had actually been cast as the villain known as The Vulture (which, unfortunately, didn't end up being the case).
