10 Amazing Supporting Characters You Wish Movies Were Centred On

Like Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens before it, Jurassic World: Dominion built a big part of its marketing strategy around the original three stars returning. However, while Episode VII failed to bring Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo (Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford) all together at once, Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm (Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum) did share a big chunk of screen time in the sixth Jurassic movie.

However, in spite of what should have been such a momentous occasion, Dominion was still painfully underwhelming, and not just because it was about locusts rather than dinosaurs. It feels harsh to say, but the original three brought very little to the film 29 years later.

Even Chris Pratt's Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard's Claire Dearing felt tired at this point. With the latest chapter in the franchise as stacked as it was in terms of characters and actors, it should have been damn near impossible for a brand new character to come in and offer more than anyone else, but this is what DeWanda Wise's Kayla Watts did.

During her very limited screen time, as a pilot formerly working in the black market before helping Owen and Claire rescue their daughter, she went through something of a redemption arc and was immediately endeared to audiences. She was a badass who had a backstory that was just dying to be explored further, though now even if she does appear in the seemingly ill-advised Jurassic World 4, playing second fiddle to Scarlett Johansson is the best the character can hope for.
