9. Brad Pitt's Gruesome Injury

Brad Pitt played the role of detective David Mills in Se7en in what many consider to be one of the megastar’s breakout performances. His memorable turn as the young detective tracking down a serial killer allowed him to showcase his acting skills in a far grittier role, as opposed to the heartthrob characters he was in danger of being typecast as.

Pitt’s grit shone through both on and off screen as the actor suffered a gruesome injury on set while filming one of the scenes. In the movie, whilst chasing down John Doe, Mills falls and crashes through a windshield. That was all part of the plan, but what wasn’t accounted for was the severed tendon that Pitt suffered while filming the stunt.

The deep cut went down to the bone and required Pitt to wear a cast for the remainder of the shoot, resulting in the script being re-written to accommodate for the injury.

This was easily done in terms of establishing Mills’ injury taking place during the chase, although when shooting scenes that take place prior to the injury in the movie, the producers had to find ways to cleverly conceal Pitt’s cast, which included Mills often standing with his hand in his pocket.
