10 Amazing Trailers That Tricked You Into Seeing Terrible Sci-Fi Movies
6. The Matrix Resurrections
Returning to The Matrix after nearly two decades was unexpected, to say the least. The Hollywood trend of banking on the glory days of past franchises only to sully their legacies is something they've got down to a science now. Still, fans had high hopes for this movie, especially after this wicked ad.
Resurrections boasted a banging trailer with all the stuff fans had grown to love from the series, albeit with a burst of colour. It saw an older, more jaded Neo living in what seemed like a muddled and confused modern world, implying some great contemporary commentary.
Besides the story implications, it was also bursting at the seams with well-edited action, especially in the expert use of the franchise's classic tropes, such as wall running, bullet time, martial arts and more. All of this was the perfect ice cream sundae, with an epic rendition of Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit being the cherry on top.
Then, the flick was released, and everybody realised they'd taken the Red Pill because reality crept in. Unfortunately, this shameless attempt to revamp a long-dead franchise was nothing more than that. While Lana Wachowski brought an earnestness to the director's chair, it still wasn't enough to save the movie.
