10 Amazing Trailers That Tricked You Into Seeing Terrible Sci-Fi Movies
4. The Dark Tower
Fans of Stephen King's fantasy sci-fi western epic, The Dark Tower (which includes this author), have always known that they'd be left hungry when it comes to adaptations, purely because the source material is just so impossible to capture. But, when the trailer dropped for this 2017 flick, they were teased with a dash of promise before getting the rug pulled out from under them.
This trailer is incredibly well structured, giving you a good eye into the dual locations of Mid-World and Earth without overloading you. It also gave you a solid look at Idris Elba as Roland, showing off some spectacular gun tricks and a tonne of stoic presence, proving he was a stellar choice for the role.
The music sounded excellent, the visuals were gritty, the midway gag about Earth's gun obsession was sharp, and the final stinger with Roland shooting a man with nothing but the power of hearing was a triumphant climax. But then, the film came out, and all that charm was lost on a mundane, middle-of-the-road action flick.
Watching this trailer back still makes this movie look ten times as exciting/unique as it ended up being.
