10 Amazing Villains Wasted In Terrible Superhero Movies

1. Magneto - X-Men

The first X-Men movie, as a whole, just doesn't work, mostly due to it coming out at a time before even Sam Raimi's Spider-Man let alone the MCU, where Hollywood's go-to solution for adapting comic books was to carve out any and all reminders that these books were and are made for children so that the too cool for school crowd didn't get too uncomfortable.

But there was one character that they got 100% right from the very beginning, and that was the villain, Magneto.

Magneto as a character was always the lynchpin holding the Fox X-Men movies together, due to a killer combination of the film zeroing in on his backstory as a holocaust survivor (the film opens on Magneto as a child in Auschwitz) and the masterful performance given by Ian McKellen.

Magneto in the first X-Men movie is good in ways that make you lament the shortcomings of the rest of the film. In a superior film - like X-Men First Class - what's set up here is made into some of the best writing in the X-Men franchise, which goes to show how Magneto was utterly wasted in this movie. What other example could be at the top of this list?
