1. Mason Verger (Hannibal)
A survivor of one of cannibalistic killer Hannibal Lecter's attacks (after Lecter became his court-appointed therapist), Mason Verger (Gary Oldman) is a wheelchair-bound and hideously deformed sadistic, but very rich, paedophile. In the movie
Hannibal, Dr. Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) is loose and Verger is hoping to mastermind an elaborate plot to capture, torture and kill him. He does this by using his riches and political influence to reassign Clarice Starling (Julianne Moore) to the Lecter case, which he hopes will draw Lecter near to him. The plot works and, ultimately, Verger's men capture Lecter and bring him to Verger's estate, where Verger intends to have him eaten alive by ravenous wild boars. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uin3Ye9T8Q Before this can happen, Clarice intervenes and saves Lecter - whom she has always had something of a bizarre soft spot for - and, in turn, Lecter saves her when she is wounded in the scuffle. Verger orders his private physician - Dr. Cordell Doemling (Zeljko Ivanek) - to shoot Lecter, but Lecter uses his powers of persuasion to encourage Doemling to push Verger in with the boars. It is incredibly satisfying to see the sadistic paedophile eaten alive. However, despite his horrific deeds, it is also equally satisfying to see Lecter survive as the audience comes to see Lecter as kind of an anti-hero - as bizarre as that may be!
