10 Annoying Movie Tropes You Can't Un-See

4. Villain Toys With The Hero Instead Of Killing Them

With the hero pinned down, cornered or captured, the villain decides to throw them across the room, stop for some playful banter, or leave them in an inherently escapable trap, rather than finishing them off with one swift and final stroke.

Often, this results in the hero's escape and the villain's downfall, but each and every time it is frustrating to see how simple victory could have been.

Often this trope is wound up with some elaborate scheme or long, drawling exposition as to the villain's plan, and is frequently found in James Bond films and, equally, sent up by Austin Powers.

Granted, it serves the plot - and where would we be without our hero? - but, by all standards of logic, villains should be fighting tooth and nail, Game of Thrones style, to make sure their enemies meet an untimely end.

Beyond the Bond series, this trope can be seen all over the place in most Marvel movies (and most superhero movies, for that matter), and has also become a staple of both serial and monster of the week TV shows.
