10 Anticipated 2016 Movies That Have Already Lost The Oscar Race
1. The Promise
The Buzz: As the Ottoman Empire comes to an end, a love triangle develops between an Armenian woman (Charlotte Le Bon), an American journalist (Christian Bale), and an Armenian medical student (Oscar Isaac).
Hotel Rwanda director and Oscar winner Terry George directs, Oscar nominee Robin Swincord (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) co-wrote the script, and the plaudits of Bale, Isaac, and co-stars Shohreh Aghdashloo, James Cromwell, and Jean Reno speak for themselves.
Why It's Already Lost: This one received mixed-to-negative reviews from its first festival bow, with much criticism leveled at the stodgy, old-fashioned romance that apparently proves more boring than enthralling. Variety got their knives out and hilariously called it "an epic bore".
It also doesn't help that the movie's IMDB score has been sabotaged by Turkish protesters who haven't even seen the movie yet, giving it a depressing 4/10 score with over 80,000 votes. IMDB may not matter much to Oscar, but PR-wise, it's still not good.
