10 Anticipated 2017 Movies That Have Already Lost The Oscar Race
5. Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House
The Buzz: Liam Neeson stars as Mark Felt, the legendary informant known as "Deep Throat", who helped journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein break the Watergate scandal in 1974.
Even with the hit-and-miss Peter Landesman (Parkland, Concussion) directing, it was hard not to be hyped about a Neeson-starring adaptation of such incendiary material. Diane Lane, Michael C. Hall, Eddie Marsan, Tom Sizemore, Bruce Greenwood and many more co-star, only fueling the buzz.
Why It's Already Lost: In what's sure to be one of the year's biggest missed opportunities, Mark Felt has received predominantly negative reviews for being a dull, stuffy examination of one of modern American history's most iconic and infamous political stories.
Though Neeson's performance was generally praised coming out of TIFF, he was also deemed unable to escape the script's many trappings.
