10 Anticipated 2017 Movies That Have Already Lost The Oscar Race

3. Breathe

Breathe Andrew Garfield Claire Foy

The Buzz: Breathe might be the year's most Oscar-baiting movie: it's the directorial debut of Andy Serkis (a man who's worked with dozens of incredible directors), is written by two-time Oscar nominee William Nicholson (Gladiator), and stars Andrew Garfield as polio-afflicted disability advocate Robin Cavendish.

All the ingredients are there, so what happened?

Why It's Already Lost: Reviews have been decidedly mixed from the festival circuit, but the consensus is that it's a fairly average tear-jerker with solid acting and decent direction, though little more.

Simply, nobody does anything outstanding, and it's more an acceptable weepie that your mum will probably love. Nothing else to see here.
