10 Army Of The Dead Easter Eggs You Totally Missed

8. Two Elevator Songs With The Same Meaning

Army Of The Dead
Universal Pictures

Dawn of the Dead and Army of the Dead share a number of narrative similarities that go beyond their shared genre, creative sensibilities, and director.

Both films feature a scene where their respective protagonists find brief respites in elevators following intense encounters with their undead antagonists. DoTD's sequence occurs near the film's end and sees the survivors find refuge in an elevator. One of them, CJ (Michael Kelly), mentions that he likes the song playing at the moment.

The song in question (Air Supply's All Out of Love) was an improvised line by Kelly and acts as a humorous bit during the film's intense climax. AoTD's final act has a similar scene as Scott Ward and Lilly escape a horde of zombies in an elevator as Culture Club's Do You Really Want to Hurt Me? is playing.

In both films, the songs' subject matter does not necessarily fit with the scenes they feature in but they still add an uneasy calm before everything comes crashing down.
