10 Army Of The Dead Easter Eggs You Totally Missed
7. Zombie, Zombie, Zombie..
The use of the Cranberries' Zombie to close off the film lacks subtlety but its chilling musical arrangement and lyrics act as an appropriately haunting sonic accompaniment to the film's conclusion. It can be argued that the song's actual subject matter does not fit Snyder's opus, and his decision to use it was informed by heavy-handed symbolism rather than enhancing the narrative.
The film's ending is suitably grim, as there are almost no survivors from the plot's heist and those who survived (Vanderohe and Kate) have their fates up in the air, especially in the former's case. Vanderohe was bitten and it is not unreasonable to assume that he infected anyone he came across.
It can be argued that Snyder specifically used it because its anti-violence nature could be used to condemn the savagery of the film's violent acts. Whether the choice worked as intended or not is up for debate, but the apocalyptic imagery is vividly underscored by the song.
