Asian horror films often use modern technology as a backdrop to unfolding horror; take The Ring for instance, with its use video players, Pulse with the Internet or Shutter with photography equipment. This example is no different. Phone is a 2002 South Korean horror film directed by Ahn Byeong-ki and starring Ha Ji-Won and Kim Yoo-mi.

Phone is an excellent example of horror done the right way. It is gripping, frightening and unsettling, focusing on a journalist (Ji-won) who has been receiving threats over the phone due to an explosive article she has written. She keeps getting nuisance calls, and due to feeling threatened, moves to an isolated house with her young daughter. It is after her daughter answers the phone one day that sinister things begin to happen. Won's daughter's behaviour starts to dramatically change, and frightening events occur.

Phone is an exceptional example of fine horror from Asia; it has all the right ingredients for an unforgettable story that sticks with you long after the lights are up. Not only that, but you might not be keen to spend too much time on your phone after, so if you want to sort out that addiction to your smart device, look no further...
