8. Best Original Song Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom
This felt like something of a consolation award due to Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom otherwise being a disappointing film as far as awards are concerned. Though the U2 & Danger Mouse song is perfectly acceptable, it's just not the best song in the group, nor is it the second or even the third. Widely anticipated to be the Oscar frontrunner is Let It Go from Disney's Frozen, and Please Mr. Kennedy from Inside Llewyn Davis also has a lot of fans, and yet both went home empty handed. While Mandela's Ordinary Love is fine, it doesn't exactly stick long in the mind like the two aforementioned songs do, so I'm left at odds as to explain how it managed to sneak the win, other than the HPFA wanting Bono to show up at their ceremony.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
