10 Awesome 2022 Movies That Didn't Deserve To Flop
4. Strange World
Disney's Strange World is one of the most recent releases on this list, and it's also one of the most surprising bombs.
Released globally in November, Strange World is currently looking to make a huge loss for the House of Mouse. This non-Pixar animated effort has currently taken home just over $54 million worldwide, with the film having cost as much as $180 million to put together.
Similar to Turning Red, this Don Hall-helmed picture was expected to strike it big at the box office. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case, and Strange World will soon be looking to find its audience on Disney+.
Strange World maybe doesn't quite hit the heady heights of Turning Red when it comes to its overall quality, but it's still a great film, was praised by plentiful critics, and is notable for how it features Wat Disney Animation's first ever openly LGBTQ+ character.
In terms of plot, the feature pulls plenty from Journey to the Center of the Earth as a family of famed explorers head to a mysterious, magical land full of all kinds of interesting, imaginative creatures. The story itself of Strange World isn't particularly revolutionary - our core characters tasked with saving an energy resource - but the characters, colour palette and overall entertainment factor of the film make it an absolute blast.
