10 Awesome 90s Movies You've Probably Never Seen
9. Dead Again (1991)
Dead Again is a thriller directed by Sir Kenneth Branagh, better known for his Shakespearean films. It's his sophomore feature, released two years after Henry V, and stars himself and then-wife Emma Thompson as a detective and the amnesiac he falls in love with.
As Branagh attempts to help Thompson figure out her identity, she is meanwhile haunted by past-life memories. These segments are shot in black-and-white, in the melodrama of a 1940s murder mystery, wherein a husband (Branagh) kills his unfaithful wife (Thompson), and the events begin to bleed into the present.
The film is a satisfying vehicle for Branagh's stirring dramatic abilities, and is an enjoyable homage to melodrama. Another bonus is a supporting character played by Robin Williams, a psychologist relieved of his position due to an affair, who attempts to explain the legitimacy of past-life experiences. Another highlight is Branagh's excellent American accent.
