10 Awesome Actors Who Totally Lost Their Momentum
9. Matthew McConaughey
Matthew McConaughey is a man who’s already been through several stages of career success – his most recent being dubbed the ‘McConaissance’, lasting until about 2014 with his Best Actor win for Dallas Buyers Club, leading role in Interstellar, and beloved performance in True Detective.
With a career booming in the 90s through to the early 2000s, the actor seemingly fell off in the mid-late 2000s, before making a turn that saw him take more challenging, serious roles away from his rom-com roots. Culminating in an Oscar win, it seemed that the McConaissance was here to stay… only it didn’t.
Since Interstellar, all of McConaughey’s roles have either been unsuccessful small indies, such as White Boy Rick and Serenity most recently, voiceover roles in animated movies such as Sing and Kubo and the Two Strings, or straight-up bombs in the franchise department like The Dark Tower.
Will there be a second coming of the McConaissance? Perhaps not, if his last few years are anything to go by.
