If recent years means since 2011, Rupert Grint has certainly fallen victim to the curse of typecasting.

Depending on who you talk to, you’re guaranteed to hear many people claim that Grint had the most potential of the three lead Harry Potter actors in his youth. He was charming, humorous, and had great comedic timing for his age. But alas, while Daniel Radcliffe has found indie success and Emma Watson has thrived through big-budget Disney ventures, Grint’s career has stayed firmly planted in the smaller sides of the UK industry.

After a few unsuccessful attempts in solo movies in the post-Potter space, Grint turned to more niche TV shows in Sick Note and Snatch. It’s a shame, because Grint had the acting ability to break out from his character of Ron Weasley successfully. Unfortunately, his role as the snarky sidekick seemingly placed him in a rut he could never escape from.

Chances are I’m watching a movie or replaying Mass Effect rather than doing anything productive.
