5. Pacific Rim

Whats It About: Guillermo Del Toro's first film after leaving production of the then two Hobbit movies, Pacific Rim marks the Spanish directors first full embracement of CGI over the much adored puppetry that made his name in Pans Labyrinth and Hellboy. Following a worldwide attack by giant monster from a rift underneath the Ocean, humanity fights back with equally as giant robots, known as Jaegers. With blistering, large scale action and an international cast, hopes are high.
Why Itll Be Awesome: Judging from the trailers, with massive money shots and impressive effects, it looks like a film made to delight every kid/man-child in the audience; one shot of a Jaeger beating up a monster with a submarine is awe inspiring. Del Toro has never been a director to let impressive effects overshadow the other elements of his films and while theres a lot on show here, even the action packed trailers keep a human edge. Expect the film everyone hoped Transformers would be.
