10 Awesome Characters Trapped In TERRIBLE Horror Movies

1. Dr. Josef Heiter - The Human Centipede (First Sequence)

The Human Centipede (First Sequence) rode a massive wave of controversy upon its 2009 release, hyped up largely on the insanity of its premise, in which a psychotic, evil German surgeon, Dr. Josef Heiter (Deiter Laser), kidnaps three tourists and sews them together, ass-to-mouth.

It's an undeniably attention-grabbing setup, and yet Tom Six's film is actually far tamer than this logline would suggest - one could even call it genuinely boring for the most part.

Between its aggressively slow, "artful" pace and aesthetic, the woeful dialogue, and unappealing characters we're supposed to root for, most of the movie categorically doesn't work.

It falls to Dr. Heiter to prop things up, then, serving as a chops-lickingly creepy villain in pursuit of a film far more interesting than the one he's trapped in. In a glorified meme of a movie, he's the only character that stands out.

Laser, who won several awards on the horror festival circuit for his performance as the evil doc, clearly understood the assignment better than basically anyone else involved with the film.
