10 Awesome Characters Who Deserved Better Death Scenes
6. Maggie
Died In: Million Dollar Baby It isn't so much the fact that she dies - that would have been a fitting and dramatic end to the story, it's more the nature of her death, which feels like something out of a Shakespearean tragedy that poor Maggie definitely didn't deserve. This was supposed to be an empowering, feminist movie about equality and women being just as tough as men, but instead it ended up being some sort of skewed parable about the woman who didn't know her place and was forced to perish paralysed, with bed-sores and an amputated leg to boot. Christ! Had it been a film about a kid from a deprived community, or some similarly difficult social background, the film would have ended in triumph (or in the odd triumph that came with Rocky's end) - but not for Maggie, who ends up euthanised by her coach and manager in a pretty heart-breaking scene. By then she has earned her death, because of the awful things her life has dragged her through, but it doesn't mean she deserves it at all.
