9. Final Destination 3 - Tanning Beds Kill

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaz73KCiKaM It was clear by the third Final Destination film that the series had pretty much expended all its good narrative ideas in the first two films, and was content to just dole out the grisly deaths without much of a pretence for a story, which is almost admirable when you think about it. Anyway, a lot of the kills - such as the opening premonition scene on the rollercoaster - were ruined by bad CGI, so it was nice to see this one steal the show with an almost complete lack of exterior effects, instead relying on the simply grim premise of two lithe women becoming trapped inside tanning beds, under the usual contrived circumstances, of course. The scene builds slowly, aware that we as viewers know what's coming, but they drain every last scrap of amusement and suspense out of it. It's ridiculously contrived - plus, tanning beds have fail safe systems these days - but it's also immensely satisfying to see these annoying characters get burned to a crisp, all because one of them left a Slushee on top of the machine. Classic.
