10 Awesome Fan Theories About The Future Of The MCU

Ian Boothby isn't the most recognisable of names in the MCU's deep catalogue of characters, but if this fan theory does turn out to be true, he could become a very important player going forward.

Boothby is the bumbling chap who's working with Darcy Lewis throughout Thor: The Dark World. The theory goes that he's actually a spy who's infiltrated one of the most forward-thinking research teams on the planet, in order to exploit both their knowledge and their direct ties to The Avengers.

Supporting evidence includes the fact that he manages to take down a handful of Dark Elves (despite their combat skills being shown to match the Asgardian warriors earlier in the film), as well as it being suspicious that a seemingly under-qualified individual just happens to land a job working with Darcy, Erik Selvig and Jane Foster.

He could be a SHIELD agent keeping an eye on Jane (since her past relationship with Thor makes her a target), an evil HYDRA agent, and one fan even speculated he could be Loki, who does enjoy a spot of shapeshifting.

Will this be a revelation further down the line? Who knows. It does seem out there, but at least there's a sprinkling of evidence and a pinch of reasoning backing it up.
