10 Awesome Fan Theories About The Future Of The MCU

8. Stan Lee Is The Watcher

Some people think that Stan Lee's cameos are throwaway gags, intended to entertain and nothing more.

But others have a different belief entirely. According to this fan theory, Lee is in fact playing a Marvel Comics character known as Uatu The Watcher, a member of an ancient alien race whose job is to simply observe significant events throughout history, but never intervene.

You can immediately see why this theory has gained so much traction, given how Lee always pops up in close proximity to our heroes, villains and the destructive battles that they wreak, the type of stuff that's certainly worthy of observation, if that was your only goal.

Since Lee is one of only a handful of people who've took on multiple roles within the MCU, there is reason to believe that there's more to his cameos than meets the eye. Even if it was never Marvel's intention for him to be The Watcher, this is something they could easily retrofit into their universe, revealing it further down the line.

Many fans have even gone one further, speculating that Lee's appearances in movies outside the MCU could one day result in characters like the X-Men and the Fantastic Four being brought back into the Marvel Studios family.

A plot revelation on this level would be earth-shattering, and while it does seem highly unlikely, it makes you view each and every Stan Lee cameo in a completely different light.
