6. Loki Let Himself Be Defeated In The Avengers Movie

So, remember how Loki's invasion of Earth was so important that they made the climatic movie of phase one all about it? Well yeah, some fans believe Loki wanted to lose all along. You see, Loki has no interest in a lowly planet like Earth (Tony Stark even nearly said as much at the top of Stark Tower before he was distracted) and all he wanted to do - if the theories are to be believed - is get Thor's attention, cause a little bit of "mischief" amongst the Avengers by making them temporarily fall out, and be taken back to Asgard. Loki has now manipulated his way to Asgard's throne and he has access to Odin's trophy room, where the Tesseract is now stored and where the Infinity Gauntlet is also stored. This also explains why Thanos hasn't made him "long for something as sweet as pain" - the Mad Titan is in on it. And it's setting up Loki in the role Mephisto played in the Infinity Gauntlet comic book arc, whereby he will be Thanos' underling who tries to gain the Gauntlet's power for himself!
