4. The Illimunati Orchestrated The Chitauri Inavasion Of Earth

Some people believe that a silent sub-plot of phase two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been the founding of the Illuminati and that the secret group was actually behind the invasion of Earth by the Chitauri. In the comics, the Illuminati orchestrate things from behind the scenes (Civil War, the Hulk being blasted in to space etc) and they consist of Iron Man (representing the Avengers), Professor X (representing the X-Men), Reed Richards (representing the Fantastic Four), Black Bolt (representing the Inhumans), Doctor Strange (representing the cosmic/mystical side of Marvel) and Namor (representing Atlantis). Of course, that line-up would have to be different on screen, but it could still be very powerful on many levels. The theory is that the Illuminati were aware of the universal threats that exist in the MCU, so they used Loki - who some people believe is a member - to attack Earth with an alien army to wake the planet up to those threats so they can be prepared for future attacks. It also makes sense that Doctor Strange has already had a mention and is heading to the MCU, Black Panther is coming and could represent Wakanda in the MCU Illuminati line-up, Bruce Banner has been seen spending private time with Tony Stark and could replace Reed Richards in the line-up and Loki could represent Asgard in the line-up - shedding a whole new potential light on Loki's motives behind doing certain "evil" deeds.
