10 Awesome Fan Theories That Would Improve The Batman Films
8. Joker Was A War Veteran In The Dark Knight
The Joker's origins are a grey area across almost all Batmedia and the version in The Dark Knight was no different on that front. However, one fan theory about the origins of this movie's version states that he was a war veteran whose head had been somewhat messed up by his experiences as a soldier. As a result his behaviour would be explained as being due to PTSD. He obviously has the tactical skills to back this theory up - he was able to infiltrate protected areas with consummate ease, was able to acquire and create weapons, and he put together complex and dangerous plans successfully. He also performed the highly regimental gun routine to perfection in the scene pictured above. Then there are quotes like "you see, madness, as you know, is like gravity - all it takes is a little push". Could that push be the perils of war, in Joker's case? And could the fact that he refers to himself as an "agent of chaos" be a reference to the fact that he was an agent himself - perhaps special-ops - during his time serving in the military? This theory thinks so, at least.
