7. Eve - All About Eve
All About Eve features the depiction of an ambitious woman who will stop at nothing to achieve fame and success in the entertainment industry. Which makes her a horrible person, and pretty much just like 75% of the rest of people who work in entertainment. This is an incredibly interesting film, because it reverses the traditional story line of the plucky ingenue getting her big break and taking over from the seasoned veteran. Eve is such a ruthlessly manipulative character that we continue to root for her boss. In other films, you see the newcomer get their big break through a random act of fate, something that doesn't involve them, but Eve is unique because she takes an active role in her rise to the top. And what's more, she wins. She gets her taste of stardom, and all of her scheming has paid off. Eve is a nuanced character who achieves a great deal of agency by consistently advocating for herself -- no matter how many people she has to step on to do it. She's a terrible person, but she's a great character.
