10 Awesome Hidden Details You Completely Missed In Action Movies
4. Upgrade - Jigsaw Is Watching
There's a lot to love when it comes to Leigh Whannel's sci-fi action movie Upgrade (2018).
Focusing on the body control themes seen in other films like Venom (also, 2018), the director doesn't hold back when it comes to heart-breaking drama, sickening gore and unexpected twists.
Yet, it's admittedly hard to take your eyes off the gripping fist fights and compelling performance of Logan Mashall-Green as Grey Trace, and that's why one rather subtle nod was overlooked by many when watching the Blumhouse flick for the first time.
Whannel wrote the original Saw with James Wan and actually starred in the film as Adam Stanheight.
Why is this important? Well, when Fisk (Benedict Hardie) and Wen (Richard Anastasios) are closing in on a STEM-powered Grey in a warehouse, a familiar face is seen spray-painted on a wall beside them; Jigsaw's Billy the Puppet.
With the corridor being dimly lit, it's easy to miss this intimidating homage to one of Whannel's most successful projects. Does this mean both Upgrade and Saw go down in the same universe? Or was Whannel just having a bit of fun?
Either way, once you spot that face, it's very hard to unsee it.
