3. Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End - Will Turner Is Stabbed By His Own Creation

When we first meet an adult Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), the blacksmith's apprentice presents the sword he made for the recently promoted commodore Norrington (Jack Davenport) to Governor Swann (Jonathan Pryce).

Though this seems like simply a way to introduce Turner to audiences, this blade eventually goes on to play a significant role in the two films that follow.

Lord Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander) would later take possession of the weapon before handing it back to Norrington after he promotes him to the rank of Admiral in Dead Man's Chest (2006). Then, when Norrington meets his end in At World's End (2007) the octopus-headed captain of the Flying Dutchman Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) opts to keep the sword after Norrington tried to kill him with it.

This trilogy-long game of pass the parcel finally comes to an end when Turner is ultimately stabbed and mortally wounded by Jones who is wielding - you guessed it - the very blade the blacksmith's apprentice created.

Though he would eventually go on to survive after stabbing Jones' heart and becoming the new captain of the Flying Dutchman.

What a fantastic way to finely link all three movies together, eh?

The less said about those wretched sequels post-trilogy the better, though...
