10 Awesome Horror Movie Villains (With Surprisingly Low Kill Counts)

4. Black Phillip (The Witch)

Robert Eggers' period horror The Witch, at first glance lacks an iconic main villain. It is not until after watching the film that audiences realised the creature pulling the strings behind the scenes and influencing the unfortunate family came in the form of a black goat, named Black Phillip. At the conclusion of the film, Black Phillip transforms into a devilish man and reveals his true intentions in a shocking twist.

Black Phillip became the surprising mascot for the film and even earned himself a Funko POP! Vinyl. Although it can be argued that Black Phillip is essentially a vessel for Satan, in this film (in his goat form) he kills only one person. Black Phillip uses his horn to stab the father of the family who is subsequently crushed by logs.

Because of the film's twist, Black Phillip didn't gain a reputation until quite a time after audiences had seen the film. Since then, the film and Black Phillip have become synonymous until now he is the unofficial mascot of the film.

Despite this, Black Phillip is clearly not the killer animal you would find in something like Jaws.
