10 Awesome Horror Movies Set In The Future That You've NEVER Seen
9. Screamers
Not everyone loved 1995’s Screamers, but there is plenty to enjoy here for fans of creepy sci-fi.
Directed by Christian Duguay, Screamers takes place in the year 2078 on the planet Sirius B, a former mining colony decimated by war. The two sides are the New Economic Block (N.E.B.), the company responsible for the mining, and The Alliance, a group of former workers who rebelled after discovering that their efforts were releasing clouds of toxic gas.
In an effort to turn the tide of the conflict, The Alliance builds a series of robots that are programmed to hunt down and kill N.E.B. forces. Unfortunately, as this film is based on a story by Phillip K. Dick, the machines don’t stay friendly for long.
A comment on mankind’s reliance on technology, Screamers goes way further than something like I, Robot or even Blade Runner in terms of gore. It’s much darker than those two, much more violent, and has a sense of dread hanging over it that will make your weak, fleshy stomach turn.
As mentioned earlier, critics were split right down the middle on this one, but give it a shot and decide for yourself.
